Thanks to the exposure to many new and interesting things, you can experience a "high" feeling. This is called the ‘honeymoon’ phase, a highly positive moment, very eventful and socially interactive. Take the most out of it!

Small steps you can take
  • Indulge in exploring as much as you wish: explore the city’s museums and cultural events. This will help you understand your new country much more!
  • Do not miss welcome days and events organised by your hosting institution or student associations like ESN. These are occasions to help orient yourself better at all levels and a good way to meet new people and eventually friends!
  • Ask your IRO if they have a list of volunteering associations or cultural and sports clubs you might join. These activities might also be useful to be in contact with locals. Moreover, if you have hobbies you wish to pursue during your exchange, it is nice to approach them from a new cultural perspective!
  • Meet your buddy when you arrive! It is key to have tips for your everyday life and suggestions to overcome administrative (or any other) barriers you might encounter.
  • Enroll in a language course! Learning a new language paves the way to better integration, connection and less difficulties in everyday life. You might not master it at the end of your exchange but everyone will highly appreciate it!
  • Do not forget to rest! :)
